The concept of FOAM Apparel came about when Romeo Alcid was President of FASA (Filipino American Student Association) of Ramapo College. Their organization needed shirts but didn’t want to pay the expensive prices to get shirts made, so in an effort to save money for the group, Romeo designed and made the shirts himself. He taught himself how to silkscreen and make designs from the internet and made shirts for the whole organization. The whole operation was a success and this turned on a light bulb in his head. He developed the name for the company to be called FOAM, which would stand for Filipino On A Mission. This concept came from the idea that everyone has their own personal mission in life , whether it was to graduate college or to earn a 6 figure salary. Romeo’s mission was to become comfortable financially to the point where he could take care of his family and give back for all that they have given him. So in essence the Filipino On A Mission is Romeo. This doesn’t mean that only Filipinos are to wear his clothing but it sets an example for others to set their own mission and goals in life.
After seeing this new found potential, he taught himself Photoshop and web design out of tutorials from Youtube and started FOAM Apparel from his room. Equipped with only 6 designs and a website that he developed from tutorials, he headed out to NJ to resume his college education and introduce FOAM Apparel to the world. We now have a solid team to push FOAM to its limits.
